JOB DESCRIPTION

ACCOUNTANT

The Tucson Symphony Orchestra is an eighty-eight-year-old arts organization in Tucson Arizona with a $4.6 million annual operating budget.  TSO is seeking a full-time Accountant.  This new position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for a variety of accounting tasks including assisting with month-end close, accounts payable, accounts receivable, audit preparation, and various financial-analysis projects. The Accountant will cross train with other accounting staff to provide backup as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S.B.A, Accounting or Finance preferred; or equivalent work experience
  • Previous bookkeeping/accounting experience and coursework in nonprofit accounting are desirable
  • Demonstrated experience with computer software including Excel spreadsheets, accounting software, and Microsoft Outlook
  • Ability to respond to vendor and internal staff inquiries with tact and poise
  • Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Willing to work occasional overtime and weekends, particularly during preparation for the annual audit

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provide backup for invoice processing and other daily transactions
  • Prepare check runs and issue wire transfer payments as required
  • Record daily pledge, donation, and ticket sales transactions
  • Update daily cash flow for disbursements made, and track future significant payment obligations
  • Monitor aging of AP and track payment obligations to specific vendors
  • Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding accounts payable transactions
  • Reconcile bank accounts and other balance sheet accounts as assigned
  • Maintain and reconcile temporarily-restricted and permanently-restricted funds, accounts receivable, prepaid expenses, and payable accounts
  • Assist with other department activities for month end closing process
  • Provide annual budget input and monthly analysis
  • Provide monthly reports to department managers, and field questions from staff and research variances to budget
  • Assist in the preparation of schedules for annual audits
  • Other tasks as required
