JoAnn Lamolino is excited to join the Tucson Symphony as 3rd/Utility Trumpet this season.

JoAnn comes to Tucson from the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, where she has served as the Associate Principal Trumpet and member of the Honolulu Brass Quintet. She is also a member of the Reading Symphony Orchestra in Reading, PA. Other performance highlights include the Baltimore, Omaha, New Jersey and Charleston Symphonies, on Broadway in NYC, with Rene Fleming, Adele’s North American Tour, Josh Groban, the indie-rock band The Walkmen, and recent guest principal trumpet with the American Ballet Theatre at Lincoln Center.

JoAnn is on the trumpet faculty of both the University of Hawaii and the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s YOLA National Festival. She has presented masterclasses at the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, New York University, DePaul, International Womens’ Brass Conference, Boston University Tanglewood Institute and the Summer Music in Tuscany Festival in Sarteano, Italy among others.

JoAnn is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music and Boston University. Principal teachers include members of the NY Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.

In her free time, JoAnn likes to teach Kundalini yoga, travel, hike, cook and shoot photos with her husband Edward Gattsek.

What's your earliest musical memory?

“My earliest musical memories are listening to Broadway cast albums with my parents in our living room. And attempting to buzz one of my dad’s trumpet mouthpieces. ”

Who are your musical heroes?

“My musical heros are legendary trumpet players Phil Smith and Vince Penzarella. Trumpet soloist Carole Dawn Reinhart, Ella Fitzgerald, Leonard Bernstein, Mahler, and the Beatles! ”

What's your favorite thing about Tucson?

“I’m really looking forward to getting to know Tucson and check out some hikes. So far I love the sunsets and Sabino Canyon!”
