Alexander Lipay, flute

Bach: Orchestral Suite No. 2 in B minor TSO PREMIERE
Shostakovich: Chamber Symphony Op.110a TSO PREMIERE (Rudolph Barshai arrangement)
Haydn: Symphony No. 102

Alexander Lipay celebrates his 10th anniversary as TSO Principal Flute performing some of Bach’s most effervescent and memorable fugue offerings featuring melodies led by the flute. In 1960, a visit to Dresden to work on a film score inspired Shostakovich to compose this emotionally charged piece immortalizing the German city that had been destroyed in 1945. The concert finishes with Haydn’s exuberant melodies in the tenth of his twelve London symphonies composed during a joyous time in his life.

Complimentary “Concert Comments” with the conductor and guest artist take place one hour before the performance and give you insight into what you’re about to hear.
