The Tucson Symphony Orchestra plays over 60 concerts every season with over 30 different programs. Some use the full orchestra, some use a small one and some use a chamber ensemble, ten people or fewer. You can read about all of our different concert series to the right. Opening night sparkles with the return of our friend, Alain Lefèvre, performing Ravel’s Concerto for Piano in G major and presenting an intimate side of Andre Mathieu whose works have brought the TSO international visibility. Borodin’ Symphony No. 2 remains the most well-known symphony by any of the members of the Russian Mighty Five. Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture is the climactic finale to any opening night!

Romance abounds amongst these American works! Guest pianist Michael Sheppard performs Gershwin’s jazzy and sensuous Piano Concerto in F. Copland’s Suite from Appalachian Spring is a beautiful portrayal of American frontier values and Howard Hanson’s Symphony No. 2, “Romantic” is a masterpiece of neo-romanticism. The world premiere, “Celebration” is a ‘musical chain letter’, a fun celebration of contemporary compositional talent.
